Russia and Iran Nearing a Strategic Agreement

FALCON POWERS – The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a diplomatic statement in the past few hours, announcing that talks regarding a strategic agreement between Russia and Iran are ongoing, and that the signing of such an agreement is expected “in the near future.”

Over the past year, numerous reports have indicated significant rapprochement between Iran and Russia, as intelligence agencies have been examining the possibility of the two countries signing a strategic security agreement. This would be similar to the strategic agreement recently signed by Russia with North Korea. The Russian Foreign Ministry’s statement today claimed that “discussions on the strategic security partnership between Russia and Iran are continuing, and agreements are expected to be signed in the near future, with a particular focus on military cooperation.”

In recent months, Russia has signed a strategic partnership agreement with North Korea and has begun supplying it with submarine and nuclear technology. Intelligence experts fear that a similar agreement between Russia and Iran could significantly enhance Iran’s nuclear program and satellite fleet, as well as potentially lead to Iran purchasing advanced fighter jets from Russia.
