Russian Defense Minister Orders Increased Armament for Military Operation in Ukraine

FALCON POWERS – The Russian Ministry of Defense announced on Wednesday that Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu has ordered the expedited delivery of more weapons to Moscow’s military operation in Ukraine.

Russia currently controls slightly less than five territories of Ukraine and seized the majority of those territories during the early months of the war it launched in February 2022, which it describes as a special military operation. The ministry stated via the Telegram application that General Valery Gerasimov, the Chief of the General Staff responsible for the operation, presented a report to Shoigu during a meeting with the top military leadership of the war in Ukraine.

The Ministry of Defense quoted Shoigu as saying in a statement published on Telegram, “To maintain the necessary pace of the offensive… it is necessary to increase the volume and quality of weapons and military equipment provided to the forces, especially weapons.”

Russian forces have made tactical advances almost daily in the past few weeks along the front line in southeastern Ukraine, a development that Kyiv attributed to its own shortage of arms.

Russia has seized around six villages in the Donetsk region while bolstering its field positions in the Kharkiv region.

On Sunday, Ukrainian Army Commander Colonel General Oleksandr Syrskyi warned that Ukraine could lose more territory if the West does not swiftly deliver weapons.

On Sunday, his forces also announced a withdrawal from villages near Avdiivka, a city in the eastern part of the country that Russia had previously taken over earlier this year.
