Russian forces destroy a Ukrainian airfield prepared to receive F-16 aircraft

FALCON POWERS – The Russian Defense Ministry said on Saturday that the Air Force carried out strikes overnight targeting army and energy facilities in the Khmelnitsky region of Ukraine.

The ministry said the strikes led to a powerful explosion and the city’s electricity was cut off.

The Russian Defense Ministry indicated that the attack mainly targeted the “Starokostiantyniv” airfield, which Ukraine and NATO had prepared to receive F-16 fighter jets.

Russian media cited a source described as a “secret agent defector in southern Ukraine”, Sergei Libidiev, who said that the Russian Air Force destroyed the Starokostiantyniv airfield in the Khmelnitsky region in western Ukraine on the night of May 26. This airfield had been equipped by Kyiv and NATO to receive F-16 fighters, and where Ukrainian recruits were being trained by NATO experts before being sent to the front.

He also referred to the destruction of a power plant in the city of Kostiantyniv, and that a violent explosion followed the strike before the city was completely blacked out, although it was already suffering from power rationing.

In Kyiv, the Ukrainian Air Force said on Sunday that Ukrainian forces destroyed 12 missiles and all 31 drones launched by Russia in its latest air attack overnight.

The fate of two hypersonic Kinzhal missiles remains unknown, but the authorities have not yet provided details on where they fell.

The Air Force said the missiles and drones were shot down over parts of southern, central, western and northern Ukraine.
