FALCONPOWERS – Data from IDC research company revealed that Apple’s smartphone shipments declined by approximately 10% in the first quarter of 2024, under intense competition from Android-based smartphone manufacturers who secured the top spot globally.
Global smartphone shipments, however, increased by 7.8% to reach 289.4 million units during the period from January to March. Samsung captured a market share of 20.8%, surpassing Apple and dethroning it from the smartphone industry’s leadership position. The sharp decline in iPhone sales comes after Apple’s strong performance in the previous quarter, where it surpassed Samsung to become the world’s top smartphone manufacturer. However, Apple slipped to the second position with a market share of 17.3%, as Chinese brands such as Huawei gained market share.
Xiaomi, one of the largest smartphone manufacturers in China, claimed the third position with a market share of 14.1% in the first quarter.
Samsung, which launched its latest series, the Galaxy S24, at the beginning of the year, shipped over 60 million smartphones during this period.
IDC data shows that Apple shipped 50.1 million iPhone devices in the first quarter, a decline from the 55.4 million phones shipped in the same period last year.
