Slovenia to recognise Palestine’s statehood

Falcon powers – Slovenia’s government has agreed to recognise a Palestinian state, following in the footsteps of European partners in a push for peace in the Middle East, it said on Thursday.

The recognition by Slovenia is subject to approval by parliament, which could come as soon as next week.

It would make Slovenia the third EU country to take such a step after Spain and Ireland, along with non-EU member Norway, during the current war in Gaza.

Prime Minister Robert Golob’s government said earlier in May that recognition of Palestine was a matter of “when, not if” but was not meant to endanger Israel.
