Falconpowers – Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez reiterated his country’s readiness to recognize a Palestinian state. In a speech before the Spanish Parliament on Wednesday, Sanchez stated that “the international community cannot help the Palestinian state unless it recognizes its existence.”
He added that such recognition falls within the framework of “Europe’s geopolitical interest,” and Spain is “ready to recognize a Palestinian state” without specifying a date.
Sanchez had previously stated during his recent tour in Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar that Spain intends to do so by the end of June.
In a related context, Sanchez emphasized that Israel’s “disproportionate response” in the Gaza Strip “completely undermines decades of international humanitarian law and threatens to destabilize the Middle East and consequently the world as a whole.”
Last month, the leaders of Spain, Ireland, Slovakia, and Malta expressed their readiness to recognize a Palestinian state in a joint statement.
