Spark of Student Protests for Gaza Reaches Canada

Falcon powers – The spark of student protests in the United States has spread to McGill University, one of Canada’s leading universities, as a sign of solidarity with the Palestinian people. Students at McGill University raised a banner that read, “We will not allow our university to be complicit in genocide,” demanding support for the Palestinian people.

In front of the campus in Montreal, students set up a camp to express their support for Palestine, urging their university to “end its financial investments in companies that support Israeli attacks on Gaza.” The campus was heavily secured with additional security measures outside its walls. Earlier in February, McGill University students went on a hunger strike to show their support for the residents of Gaza.

Student Demonstrations

On April 18, Palestinian-supporting students at Columbia University in the United States began a sit-in protest in the university’s park, objecting to its ongoing financial investments in companies that support the occupation of Palestine and the “genocide” in Gaza. During the demonstrations, 108 students were arrested.

Later on, demonstrations by pro-Palestinian students spread to other leading universities in the United States, such as New York University, Yale University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and the University of North Carolina, among others.
