Syrian TV Airs Story of Syrian Refugee Deported from Sweden to Syria and Tortured

FALCON POWERS – For the first time, Swedish television has aired the story of a Syrian refugee who was deported from Sweden to Syria. While deportation of refugees to Syria from Sweden is extremely difficult, the story of the Syrian refugee named “Ibrahim” (a pseudonym) by Swedish TV highlighted the threat that Syrian refugees may face if their asylum requests are denied and they are deported to Syria.

According to the Swedish TV report, the Syrian refugee said he was beaten and tortured by Syrian police as soon as he arrived in Syria after being deported from Sweden via Turkey.

Ibrahim had committed a drug-related crime in Sweden and was sentenced to prison and deportation. Since the region he is from in Syria was deemed safe, his deportation could be carried out. Ibrahim told SVT television that as soon as he arrived in Syria, he was interrogated and said, “They put me on the ‘wheel’ and beat me.”
