Teenager Fatally Shot by Australian Police After Knife Attack

Falcon powers – A 16-year-old boy was killed by Australian police after stabbing a person with a knife in the city of Perth, Western Australia, according to the state’s premier and police chief.

Western Australian Premier Roger Cook told the press that the teenager, armed with a knife, attacked a man and then “charged” towards police officers, prompting one of the officers to open fire, fatally injuring him.

Cook added, “There are indications that he had become radicalized online. But I want to reassure the public that at this stage, it appears to be an isolated act.”

The incident occurred in a car park in the suburb of Wellard in the outskirts of Perth on Saturday night, where a man in his thirties was found with a stab wound to the back. A police statement said that he was transported to the hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Police received a call on Saturday from an anonymous person warning that they would commit “acts of violence,” without disclosing their name or location, according to State Police Commissioner Cole Blanch. Within minutes, another emergency call alerted the police to a “male carrying a knife and running around a car park” in Wellard.

The police chief stated that footage from police cameras showed that the teenager refused officers’ demands to drop the knife and used two stun guns, but “neither had the desired full effect,” he said.

The police official further stated that the teenager “continued to advance towards an officer, who fired a single shot, striking him with fatal injuries.” He noted that the teenager later died at the hospital.

Australian security intelligence agencies have been conducting a counterterrorism investigation in Sydney since another 16-year-old boy stabbed a bishop and a priest from the Assyrian Orthodox community at a church on April 15.
