The First Decree of Iran’s Elected President – Appointing Javad Zarif as Head of the Transitional Council

FALCON POWERS – According to Iranian media reports on Friday, the newly elected Iranian President Masoud Barzeshkian has taken his first official decision by appointing his campaign advisor and former Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif as the head of the “Steering Council for the Transitional Phase of the 14th Government.”

In a post on the “X” platform, Zarif, in his capacity as the head of the mentioned council, stated: “Hello friends, please do not be concerned by the rumors and news circulating about the appointment of government members, the process has just begun.”

The Steering Council for the Transitional Phase will be responsible for nominating ministers and providing advice to the elected President for the selection of senior members of the government, which he will then present to the Parliament to gain its trust.

In response to the rumors about the reformist former Iranian President Mohammad Khatami exerting pressure for the appointment of ministers, Zarif strongly denied this, saying “these rumors are not consistent with Khatami’s noble character.”

Commenting on some speculations regarding the process of appointing the members of Barzeshkian’s government, Zarif said: “So far, no one has been nominated, including for the position of the First Vice President, and the review process will begin after receiving proposals from non-governmental organizations, academic associations, professional associations, and the private sector.”
