FALCON POWERS – Media sources in the Golan Heights have reported that the Israeli army has raised the alert level for the air force to confront any potential drone attacks.
The Israeli army’s move came after the killing of the Hezbollah leader Foad Shaker, following the targeting of the southern suburbs in Beirut on Tuesday evening.
The Israeli army announced late on Tuesday that it wants to avoid any wider war with Hezbollah, but its forces are prepared “for any scenario.”
Army spokesman Daniel Hagari said in a statement that “Hezbollah’s ongoing aggression and its brutal attacks are dragging the people of Lebanon and the entire Middle East into a wider escalation.” He added, “While we prefer to resolve the hostilities without a wider war, the Israeli army is fully prepared for any scenario.”
The United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Joanna Wronecka, expressed on Tuesday her “deep concern” over the strike carried out by the Israeli army on “a densely populated area” in the southern suburbs of Beirut, the stronghold of the Lebanese Hezbollah.
The UN official said in a statement that “the solution cannot be military,” adding that she is “in close contact with the main interlocutors” in the conflict, and called for de-escalation.
