A recent trend has emerged on the TikTok platform involving a peculiar trick that utilizes diaper rash cream, typically used for infants, in an unconventional manner.
It involves applying the cream to the face of adults with the aim of deeply nourishing dry skin. The effectiveness of this practice is a topic of discussion.
Dr. Sherine Idris, a Lebanese-American dermatologist based in the United States, revealed this trick on her TikTok page. She believes that it can deeply moisturize and repair the skin’s natural lipid barrier.
Moisturizing Benefits:
This trick is said to combat skin inflammation by trapping moisture in the skin, thanks to the presence of zinc oxide in the cream. Dr. Idris mentioned in a video posted on social media that she applies this type of baby skincare cream to her own skin in the evening, especially when she is in extremely dry climates or experiencing severe dryness.
It helps the skin retain moisture.
Excessive use of skincare products containing active ingredients such as vitamin C, acids, and retinoids can also contribute to skin dryness. Zinc oxide, with its tissue-repairing and renewing properties, is highly effective in such cases.
Specific Considerations:
While diaper rash creams can be beneficial for dry and very dry facial skin, using them on combination and oily skin types can clog pores and potentially lead to acne breakouts. In such cases, it is better to opt for skincare creams that contain zinc gluconate, which has antibacterial and acne-fighting properties.
