The European Union: TikTok Required to Provide Risk Assessment for Its New Application

FALCONPOWERS -The European Union granted the popular TikTok app, owned by ByteDance, a 24-hour deadline on Wednesday to provide a risk assessment for its new application, TikTok Lite.

The launch of the new application, which took place this month in France and Spain, has raised concerns about its potential impact on children and the mental health of users.

According to Thierry Breton, the European Commissioner for Internal Market, this step is taken under the EU’s technology rules known as the Digital Services Act (DSA) to protect minors who use the application.

The landmark law requires companies to make more efforts to address illegal and harmful content on their platforms, with the possibility of imposing fines of up to 6% of their global annual revenues for violations.
