Falcon powers – Former President Donald Trump stated during a joint press conference with House Speaker Mike Johnson that the Republican Party is considering the possibility of resuming aid to Ukraine, but in the form of loans only.
Trump’s remarks came during a press conference with Johnson following a meeting at Mar-a-Lago resort, owned by the former US president, in Florida.
Trump said, “Regarding the aid bill for Ukraine, if the House Speaker proceeds with it, we are now considering making it in the form of a loan, not just a gift.”
He added, “We (the United States) continue to give gifts in the billions of dollars. And for me, what is more important is that Europe should take a step forward, provide the funds, and match [the size of military aid to Ukraine with the United States].”
The former US president emphasized that if they do not do so, he will be “very upset,” affirming that it is Europe, not the United States, that should increase the volume of assistance to Ukraine.
In mid-March, Trump stated that European countries should allocate funds to assist Ukraine on an equal footing with the United States.
He also stated in an interview with “Newsmax” agency, “Europe spends about $100 billion on Ukraine, which is less than what we spend. I think that is very unfair to America and its taxpayers.”
Earlier, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who met with Trump on March 8 at his Florida residence, said that if Trump wins, he will not fund arming Ukraine or spend on European security. He also pledged to increase tariffs on all goods coming from the European Union if he returns to the White House.
