U.S. Navy: American Ship Headed to Gaza Forced to Turn Back After Engine Room Fire

Falconpowers – The U.S. Navy spokesman announced that an American ship en route to Gaza was forced to divert and return after a fire broke out in the engine room.

The U.S. Navy spokesman told CNN that a U.S. Navy ship was headed to the eastern Mediterranean to assist the U.S. military in constructing a pier to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza, but was forced to turn back last week due to a fire in one of its engines.

According to the spokesman, last Thursday a fire broke out in the engine room of the USS Lieutenant John Babo, which was on its way to the eastern Mediterranean to transport equipment and personnel.

It’s unclear how the delay will impact the construction of the floating pier that the Pentagon says is scheduled to be operational by the end of April or early May.
