UN Rapporteur: The Goal of Establishing a “Greater Israel” Threatens to Erase Indigenous Palestinian Populations

FALCON POWERS – Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in the occupied Palestinian territories since 1967, stated, “The genocide in Gaza is a declared tragedy that may expand to include other Palestinians under Israeli rule, and the pursuit of the goal of a Greater Israel threatens to erase the indigenous Palestinian population.”

In a report presented to the UN General Assembly titled “Genocide as Colonial Erasure,” the international expert emphasized the need to view “Israel’s actions of genocide, obscured by false Israeli narratives about a war waged in self-defense, in a broader context as numerous acts targeting Palestinians as a whole across the territories they inhabit, in furtherance of Israel’s political ambitions to assert sovereignty over all of the formerly mandated Palestine.”

Albanese stated in a press conference at the UN headquarters, “We do not only see the past reproducing itself in the occupied Palestinian territories, but we also witness the same indifference and ability to look the other way by many member states and the international community, along with a complete collapse of the international system based on the principle of not repeating what the world promised after World War II, particularly after the Holocaust.”
