Unemployment Rate in the Euro Area Rises Slightly in June

FALCON POWERS – The unemployment rate in the euro area rose slightly during the month of June, according to data from the European statistics office Eurostat.

The unemployment rate reached 6.5% in June, compared to 6.4% in May, and has remained unchanged since June 2023. Economists had expected the unemployment rate to remain stable at 6.4%. The number of unemployed people increased by 41,000 from May and by 81,000 from the previous year.

At the same time, the unemployment rate among young people under the age of 25 declined slightly to 14.1% from 14.2% in May.

The unemployment rate among men remained stable at 6.2% over the four-month period from March to June, while it rose to 6.8% among women, up from 6.7% in both May and April.

The data showed that the unemployment rate in the 27 European Union countries remained unchanged at 6.0% in June.
