US State Department Spokesperson Resigns in Protest of Washington’s Policy Towards Gaza

Falcon powers – Hala Ghareeb, the Arabic Spokesperson for the US State Department, has resigned in protest of Washington’s policy towards the war on Gaza, marking at least the third resignation from the department due to this issue, according to Reuters.

The State Department’s website also revealed that Hala had previously served as the Deputy Director of the Regional Media Center in Dubai and had been with the State Department for nearly two decades as a political and human rights officer.

Hala wrote on the social media platform LinkedIn, “I resigned in April 2024 after 18 years of distinguished service in protest of the United States’ policy in Gaza.”

When asked about the resignation during a press conference on Thursday, a spokesperson for the State Department stated that the department provides channels for its employees to exchange viewpoints when they disagree with government policies.

Approximately a month earlier, Anil Shelin from the State Department’s Office of Human Rights announced her resignation, and prior to that, Josh Paul resigned from a position within the State Department in October.

Tareq Habash, a senior official at the US Department of Education and an American of Palestinian origin, also resigned from his position in January.
