Yedioth Ahronoth: The Israeli Army Will Remain in the Philadelphia Axis for at Least 6 More Months

Falcon powers – The Hebrew newspaper “Yedioth Ahronoth” reported that the Israeli army will remain in the Philadelphia axis on the border between the Gaza Strip and Egypt for at least 6 additional months.

The Hebrew newspaper article published on its official website indicated that the Israeli army is nearing the completion of the military operation in Rafah in the south of the Gaza Strip, claiming “the approach of the Israeli army to defeat the Rafah Brigade of Hamas.”

It mentioned that some of the Israeli army brigades that will leave the Strip will head north in preparation for a large-scale confrontation with Hezbollah.

The Israeli army reported that during the ongoing Rafah operation, which has lasted for 8 weeks, they found 25 entrances to tunnels along the 15-kilometer-long Philadelphia Road, stretching from the Tel Sultan neighborhood on the seafront in the southernmost part of the Gaza Strip to the border with Israel near the Kerem Shalom kibbutz (settlement).

Yedioth Ahronoth added that it will take longer to control and certainly destroy the 25 tunnels that have been found so far and locate the remaining tunnels.

The Hebrew newspaper quoted an Israeli military official as saying: “In my estimation, this will continue for at least six more months and will require our permanent presence on the Philadelphia Road, as it is a slow and complex process.”

The unnamed official explained “that this requires permanent positions for the Israeli army and a constant presence and launching raids on the Rafah neighborhoods in order to deepen the achievements of harming Hamas.”

Yedioth Ahronoth also confirmed that the work of locating the tunnel locations is a disappointing matter with the lack of almost any intelligence information.
